Edwardian door restoration
An extremely complicated stained glass restoration project undertaken with a fellow stained glass artist.
This beautiful stained glass window with painted and textured glass is in an internal door in an Edwardian house. It has a central panel with a painted bird design which was almost certainly originally inserted into the door flat. We think that bomb damage in WWII caused this part of the glass to bulge outwards, damaging both glass and lead came. The client really liked the 3D nature of this effect though, and asked us to repair and reinforce the door to keep it within the design. It was very difficult but we managed it!
